Ministry Partner: Jars of Oil Mission Bethel

Location: Lima, Hoima, and Amuria, Uganda

Jars of Oil Mission Africa (JOMA) ministers to elderly widows (affectionately referred to as grannies) who lost their children to AIDS and now take care of their grandchildren. These grannies live in deep poverty and can barely meet their own needs, let alone the unexpected needs of grandchildren now in their care. JOMA supports families struggling with grief and discouragement by providing for both their spiritual and physical needs.

JOMA hosts weekly Bible studies and discipleship for both the grannies and their orphaned grandchildren. Most of these children are unable to attend school since the grannies cannot afford the school fees, so JOMA also assists with school fees and hopes to provide homeschooling materials for grannies to begin education at home. JOMA feeds families by delivering food packages and helping the grannies start gardens. The gardens provide a source of food, income, and dignity. Many of the grannies have HIV or other illnesses, so JOMA arranges medical treatment for them and encourages them to take care of themselves so they can continue to care for their grandchildren.
