Rising Out of Prostitution
Rising Out of Prostitution
Leaving prostitution in Addis Ababa is not easy; it often requires finding a new home, settling debts that are meant to make it impossible, and learning a sustainable skill. This grant will help one woman start her new life in Christ, free from prostitution.
Ministry Partner: Love Never Fails
Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Love Never Fails seeks to share the gospel, leading women to new life in Christ and, in that new life, helping to free them from lives of prostitution. Working in the slums of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Love Never Fails cares for the daily physical needs of men and women living with AIDS, encourages HIV testing, provides AIDS awareness programs, and leads training to destigmatize the disease. In addition, the ministry offers both income-generating activities for former prostitutes and educational support for children so that vulnerable women and children have job skills to become self-sufficient.
Over the years, women have come to Christ, participated in Bible studies with the staff, integrated into a local church, and started their own businesses. Because prostitution carries such a societal stigma, churches struggle to welcome these women into their communities. Love Never Fails also provides pastoral training to educate and equip local pastors to help their churches embrace women leaving prostitution and integrate them into the church body.
